News Letter
Here
in central Virginia we have experienced some very cold, windy,
snowy days and nights, but nothing resembling how it was in
Romania. They
experienced
the coldest winter in twenty years.
Sue, our friend
Timi Plyter, and myself traveled for two weeks in
remote villages deep in southern part of Romania evangelizing
and holding
women’s meetings. Worst of all, the van we were traveling in
didn’t have much heat so we froze, especially our
feet. We managed to run out of fuel one day on a long stretch of
road and we ended up having to push the van to get it started
when the starter didn’t work. And then there were the
“outhouses” in sub zero temperatures. However, the response we
had in the villages was worth it all.
The women in
the villages were a little strange towards us at first not
knowing our purpose for being there, especially this time of the
year. No one ever came to the villages during the winter,
especially all the way from America. I am guessing that we were
the first Americans ever to visit some of these villages. By the
end of the meetings Sue, Timi and the women had developed warm
fellowship. Sue and I are not into the so called “evangelical
counting,” but if tears are any indication it appears that a
number of people really came to know the Lord, but only God
keeps the record.
One elderly
man waited for us outside the little building. He gave us a gift
with tears flowing down his face. It was wheat woven into a
small wall decoration. I was reminded of Matthew 3:12 (KJV)
“Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge
his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will
burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Was this elderly man
among the wheat God gathered into His garner saved at last from
the unquenchable fire?
Romania and other
former communist block countries have received a lot of
attention from churches in the West since the fall of
communism. Much of this has been”Hit and Run” evangelism.
Certainly some have been saved, but at the same time they were
not grounded in their new faith. The cults have moved into the
spiritual vacuum and reaped a sad harvest. God’s plan is to
establish solid, indigenous NT churches
that will continue to spread the gospel of Christ. This is the
reason we have chosen to work through local Romanian and
Moldavian pastors and churches. We are there to give them a
helping hand. At the same time we are trying to be careful not
to create a dependence on foreign money which in not in harmony
with Hew Testament principles.
I (Rocky) will
return to Romania again in June and July to continue this
ministry to the Romanian and Moldavian church. This is what we
are all about, finding faithful men and women and teaching them
to teach others also.
Pray for
our Spiritual and physical health so that we may continue
serving our Lord. My diabetes is a greater problem as I get
older and Sue’s MS is making it more and more difficult for her
to walk, but with God’s help we keep going.
That all may know
Him,
Rocky and Sue
